For mom, it’s the thought that counts. So if you’re less than flush this Mother’s Day, feel free to go frugal in one of these ways:
A delectable dessert
For those who love coffee and sweets, a trip to Dufflet or Nadege would be wonderful! Or hit up Kitten and the Bear for an inexpensive jam and tea service. For busier or less mobile moms, all of those places have gift items and treats to go.
From 1 pm to 3 pm, you and mum can create your own original artifacts at the Gardiner ceramics museum’s drop-in class. (Register online at 10 am on the morning of the class.) Afterwards, check out the exhibits, including Unbroken by Ai Weiwei, one of China’s most influential artists and a major human rights activist. Then you can enjoy a meal at CLAY, the Gardiner’s in-house restaurant collaboration with The Food Dudes.
A stroll with fragrant flowers
For a low-key yet super lovely time, take your mom to the Centennial Park Conservatory or Allan Gardens. Both feature beautiful vintage greenhouses, a wealth of plants and flowers, and calm-inducing water features.
A tour of Kensington Market
There’s something for every mom in Kensington. You could take her to look at vintage clothes, choose herbs for her garden, get some ice cream or Mexican food, or buy her some fancy cheese. The possibilities are endless!
