Despite the city’s “great white north” moniker, summer weather in Toronto is hot and sticky, with temperatures usually hovering between 15°C and 24°C in June and between 18°C and 27°C in July and August, although long-term forecasts say there will be fewer days of extreme heat in 2019.

If you’re planning to visit, here’s a Toronto packing list:

  • Shorts and tees — no need for long pants during the day around here. And bring more than you think you’ll need because you’ll no doubt sweat through at least one outfit a day.
  • A light sweater — the stores and malls like to pump the A/C during the summer.
  • Sundresses (for the ladies) — an easy something will serve you well.
  • A rain jacket — every so often, the deluge comes with gusto and it usually happens without warning.
  • A water bottle — you can buy one here but save your money and bring your own. This will also help you avoid buying an environmentally unfriendly plastic bottle.
  • A hat — sure, you could pick up a Toronto Raptors hat while you’re here (if you can still find one). As for shades, they’re a must.
  • A swimsuit — we have 58 outdoor pools and a water park to cool yourself down.
  • Comfortable shoes and socks — Toronto is a walking city and you’ll want to explore by foot.
  • A change purse — loonies and toonies (our $1 and $2 coins) can get heavy and rather loud in your pocket.
  • Nice going-out clothes — as casual as we tend to get here in the summertime, many of the more upscale restaurants still insist on upscale dress.
  • An extra suitcase — the shopping in Toronto is outstanding. And depending on where you’re coming from, it can be extremely affordable.

As for daily essentials like sunscreen and bug spray, you can get all that here… but if you’d rather spend your money on the city’s attractions events and summer parties, bring those along too.

Enjoy summer in Toronto. It’s definitely the best time to come.
